7 November 2010

It is with great sorrow that we learned of the death of former Taekwondo champion, coach of the Luxembourgian Team, and friend, Luigi Melis (50). We would like to express our condolences to his family, relatives, and close friends.

Short bio

Luigi began in 1975 with Taekwondo. His talent was quickly discovered after a relatively short period of training. The success came in 1981 when he won the Dutch Open, and his entry into the Dutch national team. He stayed in the team until 1988. After his retirement from active competition, he became assistant coach of the Dutch national team. Since 1997, he also held the position of technical director of New Zealand. From 2002 to 2009, he was coach of the Luxembourgian national team. Luigi Melis held the 7th dan in Taekwondo.
